Where to start fixing your website: 3 places to check first

Short answer

Check your search result title first, then your first screen, then your contact path. That is the order customers from search go through, so it gives you a clear path. The order and the checks below are our own approach. You do not need to fix everything at once.

1. The title in search results

Customers who come from search see the results before they see your page. A title like "Home" does not say what you do. Google says title links are often the main thing people use to decide which result to open. Use your company name alongside a description of what you offer.

Google recommends a descriptive title for each page and advises against vague words like "Home" and against keyword stuffing. Google generates what appears in results automatically, so a new title does not always change what is shown.

  • Search for your business and read the title
  • Check that it says what you offer, where, and for whom
  • If it does not, rewrite it using only facts already on the page

2. The first screen

Open the page and read what is visible without scrolling. If it is only a welcome message or a mission statement, lead with what people can hire you to do. You can keep the welcome message further down the page.

3. The contact path

Finally, try contacting your business from a phone. A button that is hard to find or a phone number that cannot be tapped can be a reason people leave.

  • Is there a contact button on the first screen?
  • Can the phone number be tapped to call?
  • Does the form ask for too much?

If you stall, make it one fix a day

The longer the list, the harder it is to pick where to begin. Deciding on a single fix for today makes it easier to start. That is our view, not a rule. We are building a service that sends you that one fix each morning. It does not do rebuilds or major development.
